On April 3, 2022, South Korean Twitter user @Breeze_in_July shared a tweet that read, "What the? Don't tell me Produce is coming back?" The post includes a photo showing that "Produce 101" was registered again on February 21, 2022.

No logo was added to the trademark register, leading some to speculate that it will follow. Mnet has registered a trademark under the "Produce" name to signal a new season for the previous seasons.

Though the tweet was made in April 2022, it only became viral on May 28, 2022, after an internet user on Instiz shared the tweet to the forum site.

Many people expressed anger at the possibility of a new "Produce" season. People are still angry over the vote-rigging scandal and believe that the show should be put to rest.

Others pointed out that "Girls Planet 999" has already replaced "Produce," as the former will soon air a male version.

Why Did 'Produce 101' End?

In 2019, Mnet was accused of rigging the votes for their fourth (and final) season, "Produce X 101." People noticed that in the finale, the total votes of the final rank were multiples of 7,494.

In response, Mnet admitted there were errors in calculations but maintained that the final rankings were correct.

On August 1,272 viewers filed a lawsuit against Mnet after it was discovered their on-site text voting service charged 100KRW per vote. This sparked an investigation led by the Seoul Metropolitan Police.

Kim Young Bum and Ahn Joon Young, the producers of the "Produce" series, were arrested on November 5. Ahn later confessed to manipulating the ranks of all four "Produce" seasons.
